1996 Cologne Summit

The June 1996 Summit, hosted by RWE AG, was held in Cologne, Germany to discuss the topic of Joint Implementation (JI)-a UN framework for addressing global greenhouse gas problems-and the e7’s commitment to support JI at both the conceptual and practical level. The Chairpersons’ approved the e7 Greenhouse Gas Management Strategy and the Joint Implementation Framework documents for external distribution. Furthermore, at the Cologne Summit a second event took place, the Round Table on Electric Utilities’ Priorities for Sustainable Energy Development The e7 Chairs invited the Chairs of seven developing country utilities to share their concerns regarding Sustainable Energy Development (SED). A Joint Communiqué was approved at this meeting, emphasizing each utility’s commitment to SED.

e8 Priorities

Major global environmental and social issues that affect the electric utility industry are considered to be the top priorities of the e8.

The issues of sustainable development, climate change, social trust, and internationalisation are the focus of the e8's actions.
