The Tokyo Electric Power Company hosted the 2002 e7 Summit in Tokyo, Japan which brought together the Chairmen of each e7 member company, including newest members American Electric Power and ScottishPower. 10 years after the Rio Summit and the creation of the e7, the TEPCO Chairmanship year began focussing towards the World Summit on Sustainable Development. The e7’s 10th Anniversary: A Decade of Action book were the products of this fruitful year and Energy in Action statement. Also on the occasion of the Summit, the Chairmen held a forum with invited guests on “Utility Risk Management in the 21st Century”.
Major global environmental and social issues that affect the electric utility industry are considered to be the top priorities of the e8.
The issues of sustainable development, climate change, social trust, and internationalisation are the focus of the e8's actions.
