Under the Chairmanship of Ontario Power Generation (OPG-Canada), the e7 held its fourteenth annual Chairmen’s Summit in Ottawa, Canada. After having joined the group as an associate partner in 2004, RAO UESR, the Russian Federation’s largest electricity utility, became the tenth member of the e7 during the Summit. The major theme of the Summit was Education for Sustainable Energy Development and several internationally renowned experts and three e7 Scholars joined the e7 Chairmen to discuss ways to further promote education in this field. The e7 companies then adopted an ambitious education plan, under which the current e7 Scholarship Programme will be extended and expanded, and components such as an Internship Programme and Scholars’ Network will be developed. The e7 Chairmen acknowledged the excellent progress made on several e7 projects, including the Bhutan Hydropower Project, the e7’s first Clean Development Mechanism project, which will be inaugurated in August 2005.
Major global environmental and social issues that affect the electric utility industry are considered to be the top priorities of the e8.
The issues of sustainable development, climate change, social trust, and internationalisation are the focus of the e8's actions.
