Kansai Electric Power Company is one of the 10 major electric utility companies in Japan. The service area of the Company is located in the central part of the main island of Japan, and covers nearly 29,000 km². Kansai supplied 150.4 billion kWh to its 13.3 million customers in the fiscal year of 2008-2009. The area known as Kansai, with Osaka as its central city, constitutes a powerful economic area next to Tokyo. The company's production mix is composed at 42% of nuclear, 49% of thermal and 9% of hydropower and renewable energies. Kansai’s total installed capacity is 34 GW and the company employs a total of 20,184 people.
