American Electric Power is one of the US’s largest electric utilities owning more than 38,700 megawatts of generating capacity. AEP’s generating assets are comprised of 69% coal-fired plants, 20% natural gas, 6% nuclear and 5% of wind, hydro, pumped storage and other sources. AEP is also one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, employing more than 21,000 employees and serving 5.1 million customers linked to the company’s 11-state electricity transmission and distribution grid. The company’s 2008 revenues totaled USD 14.4 billion.
