2007 Osaka Summit

At the 2007 e8 Annual Summit in Osaka, Japan, under the chairmanship of Kansai (Japan), the Chairmen of the nine world leading electricity companies from the G8 countries reaffirmed the importance of the e8 role in addressing the global trilemma of securing sustainable energy supply and maintaining competitiveness, while protecting the global environment.

 

Following the Summit discussions, the Chairmen put forward a statement, the 2007 Statement on Global Energy Issues, reflecting the role of the e8 in addressing such a trilemma, with a particular focus on the organisations response to the following specific global energy issues:

At the Summit, the e8 chairmen emphasised the importance of a collective approach to the effective stabilisation and reduction of CO2 emissions worldwide. As a voice of the electricity sector, the e8 will play a major role in mitigating climate change and enhancing cooperation with developing countries in this area.

The e8 chairmanship was passed on to Hydro-Québec (Canada) for the year 2007-2008.

e8 Priorities

Major global environmental and social issues that affect the electric utility industry are considered to be the top priorities of the e8.

The issues of sustainable development, climate change, social trust, and internationalisation are the focus of the e8's actions.
