Md. Islam Nazrul

Dr. Md. Isam Nazrul, a Bangladesh citizen, was awarded the 2006 Postdoctoral scholarship to pursue studies at the National Insititute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technologie (AIST), Sendai, in Japan. Dr. Nazrul holds a PhD from Yokohama National University in Japan. His postdoctoral research will focus on obtaining better performance for solid oxide fuel cells by improving catalytic activities for cathodes and anodes which would be used to develop a stationary power generation system for hospitals in Bangladesh.

Suraj Baral

Suraj Baral
Suraj Baral holds a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from his home country, Nepal. He has been accepted to study Sustainable Energy Planning and Management at Aalborg University, Denmark and intends to focus on issues related to sustainable energy development with community participation as a key element for implementation.

Ranjan Sharma

Ranjan Sharma
Ranjan Sharma is from Nepal where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. He has been accepted to study for a Masters in Wind Energy at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Denmark. Mr. Sharma has already published works on wind turbines in Nepal and is committed to helping rural Nepal.

Abdel Khan

Abdel Khan
Abdel Khan is from Trinidad and Tobago and holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. For his undergraduate thesis he conducted a project on solar photocatalytic water splitting with the generation of hydrogen from solar energy. He has been accepted to study at Cambridge University to study a MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development. He is currently director of an NGO that provides help for the underprivileged and intends to return to his country to be a university lecturer.

Camilo Varas

Camilo Varas
Camilo Varas obtained a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in Ecuador. He has relevant working experience with wind power and plans to specialise in hybrid systems. In 2005, he was awarded a scholarship from China to receive training in small hydro power. He has been accepted to study for the European Masters Degree in Renewable Energy at EUREC and would like to return to Ecuador to continue his research.

Caiyang Wu

Caiyang Wu
Caiyang Wu, from China, holds a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. He has been accepted to study for the Postgraduate Programme in Renewable Energy at the Energy and Semiconductor Research Laboratory (EHF) at the University of Oldenburg in Germany. He intends to return to China to work in a university or in the energy field.

Boonrod Yaowapruek

Boonrod Yaowapruek
Boonrod Yaowapruek studied engineering in Thailand and has experience as an energy consultant. With particular interests in renewable energy and bio-fuel policy, he will continue his studies on Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden.

Established in 2001 to support outstanding students in advanced studies of sustainable energy development , the e8 Scholarship Programme offers two-year scholarships to Masters and Post-Doctoral students.
